Week 5 in review:
What does it look like?:
It is easy to see something and not realize that what may seem good or appealing may be actually be bad for us. Friendships have positive and negative aspects. It is important to know who you are and what feels comfortable to you in order to determine if you want to be a part of a group.
Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda:
Achieving a positive self-image is difficult for many girls. It is far easier to focus on what is wrong than what is right. We develop guilt when we have expectations of ourselves that are unrealistic. Statements like “I should get better grades or “I should be prettier” often set us up for disappointment and lowers self-esteem. Reframing these statements to “I wish” can help identify realistic goals and ways to be more accepting of ourselves.
When is bragging a good thing?:
Your strongest supporter and cheerleader should be yourself. Too often we dismiss our accomplishments and fail to give ourselves credit for what we do well. It is important to create a list of “braggable” items to reflect on when we feel our self-confidence is a bit shaky to boost us to keep on trying.
What helps you to reset?
What are some things you like to do that make you feel great about yourself? Create a list to jump start you the next time you are feeling bored, down, lonely or just plain silly….choose one and start feeling better faster.
