John von der Lehr, LCSW

Therapist

I view the therapy experience as a “directed partnership” where strategies are used to directly impact the areas of your life that are in need of improvement. I don’t believe that “this is just the way it is” or “things can’t get better” or any of these other beliefs that hold people back from being happy and fulfilled in their lives. Whether it is depression, self-esteem issues, anxiety, problems in marriages, work situations, etc. or if you are looking for help with several small things in your life right now or if you are in a dark and difficult place, therapy can make a dramatic difference. Incorporating new or different understanding and with continual application of proven strategies, your emotions, thoughts and very life can be better and more enriching than you might even realize. I look forward to hearing from you.

Services Provided

Counseling and psychotherapy for adolescents
Counseling and psychotherapy for men and women
Family Therapy

I attended Louisiana State University and Louisiana Tech University and earned a degree in Communications. I received my Graduate Degree in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington with the focus of direct practice/counseling.

Although I tailor my approach to the needs and personality of the client, I utilize cognitive behavioral strategies to assist the client in examining their thoughts and beliefs and how those thoughts/beliefs work for them or against them in their daily lives. By learning strategies to gradually improve thought, more positive actions and behaviors follow. Additionally, direct solution-focused approaches examine immediate ways to have a positive impact in the client’s lives. Other approaches can be used based on the needs and circumstances of the client.

I have been a therapist for both adults and adolescents for years and have also worked with couples and families. I have experience as as Intensive In-Home Team Lead, and also have experience working at a Psychiatric Hospital.
